I've used Kwikset, Schlage, and Defiant (Home Depot house brand). I find the Kwikset locks to be finicky - in particular if you accidentally over tighten them they just don't work very well, and if you don't tighten them, they always come loose. I bought a Defiant lock once because it was inexpensive, but it seems to work & install just like the Kwikset, so I won't do that again.Now that I've tried Schlage, that's all I buy. They're not the least expensive, but I like the fact that they install quickly and never seem to need any adjusting. You can install them nice and tight, and they just work, and they don't eventually loosen. Never had a problem. So for me, these just work - which is all I'm really asking for. One note though, I don't like using Schlage hinges (for interior doors) since they don't have a removable pin. I'd just get an inexpensive hinge on... We also replaced the other hardware; such as hinges, door stops, etc... at the same time. The results were amazing and it really made a huge difference in how our house looked. Two years later we decided to replace all the knobs upstairs and we had the same results. These look a lot better than the standard builder-grade knobs and they hold up a lot better too. These aren't the high-dollar solid knobs, but they do look good and they hold up great to abuse.
